TCCI Co-Founder Chrissy Luo Honored by the China Institute
Chrissy Luo, a co-founder of the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute (TCCI) was honored by the China Institute at their 2023 gala on Thursday, January 26th as one of this year’s “Outstanding Asian American Women Who Dared to Change Our Community and Future.” The award recognizes women who do great things in the world and who are role models for the younger generation.
The China Institute described Chrissy as “an enlightened philanthropist, who emphasizes patience, flexibility and due diligence as the hallmark of strategic philanthropy and thoughtful giving.” They praised the billion-dollar commitment she and her husband Tianqiao Chen made when creating the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute (TCCI) as “an historic initiative which will help humanity better understand ourselves and the world.”
In addition to her philanthropy, the Institute also honored Chrissy for co-founding Shanda Interactive Entertainment Group in 1999, a company credited with pioneering the online game and online literature industries in China, and for her public service supporting science and education. Chrissy is a member of the California Academy of Sciences’ Board of Trustees. She is also on the board of Governors at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens and a member of the China Leadership Board at the 21st Century China Center at University of California, San Diego.
The China Institute was founded in 1926 and is the oldest bicultural, non-profit, non-political organization in the United States. It has been the go-to place for Americans to learn about China through language, music, dance, art, cinema, history and business lectures. Located in New York City, the Institute works with organizations all over the United States and around the world with its programs.
